HOW DOES TREATMENT WORK?

All Camden Treatment Associates programs combine methadone maintenance treatment and group and individual drug counseling as required by State and Federal guidelines. Combining medication and drug counseling is necessary to support  lasting recovery.

Methadone Maintenance Treatment

Methadone maintenance treatment (MMT) is integral to all our treatment programs. All clients receive individualized treatment and a therapeutic dose of methadone daily to initiate their recovery process.

Methadone is a long-acting opioid medication that is used to treat those who have become dependent on heroin, fentanyl, or any other opiate (pain killer) medication, such as codeine, morphine, as well as synthetic drugs such as oxycodone, oxycontin, and hydrocodone, When prescribed with counseling and other psychosocial services, methadone relieves cravings and withdrawal symptoms, and it helps clients begin to build the bridge toward recovery.

Specifically, MMT helps normalize the body’s neurological and hormonal functions that have been impaired by heroin or misuse of other short-acting opioids.

Appropriate MMT provides several benefits:

  • Reduces or eliminates craving for opioid drugs
  • Prevents the onset of withdrawal for 24 hours or more
  • Blocks the effects of other opioids
  • Promotes increased physical and emotional health
  • Raises overall quality of life and functioning

Drug Counseling: Group Therapy and Individual Therapy

Methadone maintenance treatment must be combined with counseling to achieve lasting change. Each Camden Treatment Associates’ program includes group counseling as well as individual counseling. Through therapy, you will gain self-awareness and valuable insights about how addiction has affected your life. In therapy, you will engage with our 90-day disease of addiction curriculum that teaches you about the biology of addiction, coping skills, triggers, and strategies to build and maintain strong skills that support your recovery.
